What kind of band name is Failed Generation anyway? It's an extremely clever and on-brand double entendre, that's what! That's right, if you didn't catch it already, it's got two meanings:

1) Yes it's a dig at the generation of your choice (probably Boomers for me?), but most obviously at Gen Z since they're the current generation of the day so-to-speak and a soft target. It's a non-specific reference however, and I don't really have anything against any particular generation, I certainly don't think any of them have FAILED. But it's eye-catching, so call this the clickbait half of the meaning I suppose.

2) More on-the-nose - and more obscure for most of you I'm sure - it's a reference to AI, which a tool I use frequently to produce music videos. Specifically it's a reference to the pop-up alert you get in Google's Veo video model when it chokes on your input or otherwise fails to give you a response: Failed Generation. I'm sure the same verbiage is used in other AI platforms as well.

The irony is not lost of me of a failed AI generation being the title of my band that leans into AI. But the truth is there are more failed generations - at least ones that you can't use, or that just aren't good enough - than there are “successful generations” in the world of AI, so it is appropriate.
